William (Bill) Chen was born in 1970. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley, and works as a quantitative analyst and software designer. He is part of the “statistical arbitrage” department of Susquehanna International Group. In the 2006 WSOP Bill Chen won two bracelets, for Limit Hold’em and No Limit Hold’em (short-handed). He had also taken a Legends of Poker tournament at the Bicycle Casino in 2000. Chen is perhaps best known for his contributions to commentary on poker, through the rec.gambling.poker newsgroup and progeny, and through his writings. He is a co-author with Jerrod Ankenman of The Mathematics of Poker. As of the beginning of 2008 he has won nearly $1 million in tournament prizes. Chen plays on line from time-to-time and takes part in Team
PokerStars.
