Golden Gate
Golden Gate is one of the great historic hotels in Las Vegas. Located on the Fremont and a proud part of the Fremont Street Experience, it first opened its doors in the year 1906.
Originally called Hotel Nevada, it was a real pioneer – it actually the first in Las Vegas to receive a telephone number.
When Nevada legalized gambling, the hotel changed its name to Sal Sagev, which is Las Vegas spelled backwards. Thankfully, the name was later changed to the Golden Gate.
There’s no better casino to get a piece of old Vegas experience considering that Golden Gate really is old Vegas and maintains its 1920s San Francisco theme. You’ll find flappers all around, having a good time and enjoying the hottest music under neon lights while mocking convention with their short skirts.
Golden Gate boasts some 10,000 square feet of gaming space with over 300 games to choose from. Golden Gate regularly updates some of them, though there are not as many video poker machines. It’s said their slots are pretty loose and you have a better chance at winning here than at most casinos.
The flappers will deal you games of blackjack, craps, roulette, and Caribbean stud, 3-card poker and Let it ride.
Not only will the Golden Gate serve you cocktails, but their cocktail shrimp won the 2008 Best Tail in Town award. In fact, Golden Gate was the first place in Vegas to serve shrimp cocktails.
Golden Gate has sought to maintain their traditions, but since they have never expanded, they’ve never been able to add a proper race and sports book, but they added a betting kiosk.
With club 1906, you’ll receive points that help you earn free gifts, such as meals and discounts on your room.
If you’re looking for the Golden Age of San Francisco and a real Vegas tradition, check out the Golden Gate, which is continently located at 1 Freemont Street and an integral part of the Freemont Street Experience.
