Sahara
Sahara is one of the last standing of the casinos from old-time Vegas, having opened its doors back in 1952. A piece of Vegas history like this one is an increasingly rare treat amid the other modern mega-resorts that have take root more recently. In fact, the only other casinos left over from Vegas’ classic era are the Flamingo and the Riviera.
You can’t miss the enormous dome covered in neon lights of the Sahara. If this resort appeals to you, try to get in soon because there’s been some talk of closing it down.
The casino aims for a Moroccan theme with Arabian Nights-style details, an arched dome and tiles. The stores and restaurants have Middle Eastern names like Jewel of the Nile and the Thirsty Camel. The colorful towers of the Sahara are so distinct that they have been featured in countless films, such as “Ocean’s Eleven.”
Like a lot of casinos, Sahara lets you test your skill in a variety of tournaments. They often hold huge tournaments for games from poker to slots and everything in between. You’ll find lots of other exciting gaming options at the large 85,000 square foot casino.
The blackjack rules variations and table limits are not a mirage. Sahara often offers some very attractive blackjack options for those who know the difference and goes the extra mile to draw customers in with all kinds of discounts.
There’s also Pai Gow poker, 3 card poker, Texas Hold’em, big six, war, let it ride, madness 21, roulette, craps, you name it.
The Sahara casino also offers free gaming lessons in a variety of tables games including craps and blackjack for those of you who’s game could use a bit of fine tuning.
The party pit has a 60’s theme, with dealers wearing some wild costumes and showing it off.
Sahara kept all of its classic slot machines and added many new ones including keno and video poker with fantastic graphics. Slots include favorites like Wheel of Fortune, Monopoly, Slotopoly and Megabucks. You can use slots payout vouchers instead of coins so that you can fit them in your wallet.
Besides offering excellent cash prizes, Sahara also lets you gamble for exciting prizes like the hot cars.
Poker games are held in a comfortable non-smoking room where the Sahara holds all varieties of hold’em games. There are over 16 tables available.
If the energy of Sahara’s games keeps you from sleeping at night, you can always try relaxing at the swimming pool or enjoying a gazebo-covered spa.
Or try watching your favorite sports games at the race and sports book, with over 35 seats, 16 TV’s and 2 big screen TV’s.
If your kids are bored, you can take them to the Speed-The-Ride rollercoaster, which travels from the hotel, through the Sahara sign and all the way up a tower before reversing and returning back to the starting point.
The Sahara is real Vegas, baby.
