CBS Television City Research Center
Are you sick of watching tiresome serial repeats and outdated docu-dramas? CBS Television City Research Center, located within the decadent MGM Grand Hotel and Casino could be your opportunity to change the scape of television programs for the better. Las Vegas' only network-operated (free) attraction inspires young and old alike to don the network critic's cap and weed out the weak reels from the endless pilot shows they get sent each month. Choose what makes the grade among MTV celebrity spoof shows, Nickelodeon animations, documentaries and plenty of other Viacom dramas, because at Television City you're the boss!
Television City is no new concept – in fact, the facility has existed on the Las Vegas Strip (South) site far longer than the hotel itself. Opened in 1952, Television City became Nevada's premier site for the creation of television production, previous CBS successes including “Price is Right” and 15-year runner “Family Feud”. The hub for game show creations and celebrity chat shows, Television City is one of the most respected studio locations in America, with a long history of courting huge audience figures and international acclaim. Now, they're turning over the responsibility of choosing which shows make the grade to Las Vegas visitors, whether or not you're a U.S citizen.
With screenings every fifteen minutes from 10 am until 9 pm, you're guaranteed at least one opportunity to make your thoughts heard. Each program screening lasts between 15- 45 minutes, with an additional thirty minute time slot for review. Upon entering the cinema review room, you'll be handed a small pack containing a review form, guidance notes and souvenir pen, followed up with a brief introductory narrative about the show you're going to see. It's made all the more exciting by the fact you don't quite know what concept is about to be screened. The screening staff relay little, adding to the anticipation that this could be the next “50 Cent: The Money and The Power” documentary!
Sounds like an exciting opportunity right? Visitors to Television City are usually brimming with questions after the screening, the most common of which is “how do I know if/ when the program will be aired”? As a thank you to reviewers, CBS offers a number of incentive competitions in exchange for opinions and will also send you regular mail/ email updates about the pilot you reviewed. If your chosen pilot is short-listed to be aired on one of Viacom's channels, you''ll be automatically entered into a prize draw for a $9000 cinema system, state-of-the-art television, show tickets or merchandise. Basically a win-win situation!
