David "Chip" Reese was a native of Dayton, Ohio, born in 1951. He died in December of 2007. Chip was best known as a “cash game poker player,” that is, one who did not make a high profile by winning big-name tournaments. He graduated from Dartmouth College, but did not go on to Stanford Law School as planned. Instead, he won $60k in a Las Vegas tournament the summer after college and decided to turn pro. As a young player in the 1970’s, he was considered a whiz kid at Seven Card Stud. As a writer and teacher of poker, Reese emphasizes emotional control. Once Chip established a family, he spent more time on sports betting, as he could stay home more than when he was on the poker circuit. He was able to earn a living with a sports betting approach that he fashioned for himself. Chip Reese won three World Series of Poker Bracelets (1978 Seven Card Stud Split; 1982 Seven Card Stud; and 2006 HORSE). He was the 1991 inductee in the WSOP Poker Hall of Fame, at age 40, the youngest member of that select group.
