Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel has won eight WSOP bracelets, starting in 1992 with Limit Hold’em, but also including Omaha and Lowball events. He may also be well known for the event he almost won, a final pot at the WSOP Championships in 1988, which he lost against Johnny Chan, a clip of which appears in the the movie Rounders. Colleagues on the circuit appreciate Erik because he is talented and capable, as well as smart and congenial. Like several other top ranked players (Howard Lederer, Dan Harrington, Steve Zolotow. Jay Heimowitz and Wendeed Eolis), Seidel got his start at New York’s Mayfair Club. (Mayor Guiliani shut down the Mayfair Club in 2000 as part of his “Quality of Life” campaign.)
Erik Seidel has said that flexibility and patience are virtues needed for winning poker tournaments. In addition to his eight WSOP titles and the 1988 second place finish, he won Pot Limit Omaha in 2003 at the Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic and the No Limit event in 2004 at Fest Al Lago.
