Boulder City Golf Course
The enigmatic urban twin to Boulder Creek in the West of the town, Boulder City Golf Course lures with it's own stunning stylized scenery and immaculately kept grounds, at a few dollars less than it's sister club. Cheap need not mean a compromise on quality, for Boulder City's layout has been charming locals and tourists alike, since the grand old year of 1936. Little has changed in the eyes of it's mixed ability regulars.
Readers of Vegas Golfer Magazine cited Boulder City as the “Best Bargain Course in Southern Nevada” for three consecutive years running post Millennium. Resort guests can play for as little as $30 during the “twilight” period after 2 pm or $25 to savor 9 holes. Boulder City is an 18-hole course, diversified into a front and back nine with equal measure of challenging tees. Expanded to 6,600 yards by architects Billy Casper and David Rainville in 1972, the City Golf Course presents a fine par-72 layout with revived greens and a number of enhanced tee-offs for analytical players. With a slope rating of 117, the going gets tougher than expected in places, however this just adds to the course's eccentric character.
Nestled between the Hoover Dam and a trio of mountain ranges, Boulder City Golf Course stands well against it's Western sister, famed for her gratuitous mountain panoramas. Located in the South central area of town, Boulder City is well connected by operators to and from Vegas, as well as the Municipal Airport just 5 minutes North. Boulder City Golf Club sits on the doorstep of Lake Mead Recreation Park too, affording a great many adventurous opportunities that simply cannot be found anywhere else.
Water comes into play for eight of the challenging eighteen holes – each faring a little different to the next with concave bunkers clustered at the fore of the green, or a tumbling waterfall creating fogs of spray. A traditional, yet semi-parkland layout, Boulder City offers seven par-4 holes with median yardage. The 276-yard 8th is a deceptively picturesque par-4, with a spurting fountain amid the glass-like pond, however will require a combination of clubs to reach the tiered green in two shots. The uphill 16th, with it's narrow fairway and abundance of trees is equally as quirky, with three sunken bunkers midway down the yardage.
If you enjoy the challenge of traditional golf, within surroundings befitting of a golfing resort, Boulder City is the perfect public course. Similar in design to the Boulder Creek clubhouse, the building at Boulder City boasts an on-site grill restaurant, lounge bar and cafe in addition to adjacent putting and chipping greens. Why pay more, when you can enjoy the beauty of Las Vegas' up-and-coming golf town for the price of dinner on the Strip?
