Mojave Resort
The Mojave Resort Golf Club is located in Laughlin, Nevada, approximately 105 miles south of Las Vegas. This premier course opened in 1997, and since then has been voted "best course" in the tri-state area and given four-stars in Golf Digest's "Places to Play." The Club’s head golf professional, Daniel Hegney, won 2009's most outstanding golf professional in the tri-state area. In the last four years running, the Club received awards for best golf course, best pro shop, and best golf pro (Chris Stewart –GM and Director of Golf).
Those are impressive achievements for a golf course. But, it’s a serious 18-hole, par 72 course designed by Landmark Design Company. Its four tees range in yardage from 6,939 on the black tee to 5,520 on the red. Navigating the course’s wide, rolling fairways is a challenge for any level of golfer as they work around dog-ears, trying to avoid cattails, pools of water, and wind-blown sand dunes. It’s an interesting, tough course, on which the course’s record holder, Scott Foster, skillfully managed a 64.
The Mojave Resort golf course is a public course, and it’s open year round, except from mid-September to mid-October when it closes for re-seeding. Rates run $50-$100, any day of the week, and rates are lower during the summer months. Golfers can book their tee time reservations up to a month in advance; outside of 30 days, the Club adds $5 per person pre-booking fee.
Rates include a golf cart, range balls, bottled water, bag services and Nevada tax. There’s no chance of losing your way at Mojave Resort golf course because each golf cart is equipped with a GPS system to help you traverse yardages and locations on the course. The Club has all new rental equipment this year - Titleist equipment for men, Cobra equipment for women, and left-handed Players sets for lefties – , which they rent for $35 a set.
Lessons with certified PGA & LPGA pros, range in price from $40/half-hour to a series of 3 half-hour lessons for $100. Recorded lessons are also available.
Inside the clubhouse lounge or outside on the links, the Club’s dress code is standard for a classy golf course: mandatory collared shirts, no tank tops or sleeveless tee-shirts, and no attire displaying profanity or suggestive imagery. While denim is okay, leave your frayed or cut-off shorts at home. If you aren’t wearing a collared shirt, purchase one in their fully-equipped pro shop, which features all of the top brand names in apparel and equipment, plus Mojave Resort Golf Club logos on many items to help you remember your trip to this state-of-the-art golf course.
From Las Vegas, the Mojave Resort Golf Club is under a two-hour drive, down south US-95, and then east on highway 163. The course is across the street from the Avi Hotel and Casino, and golf packages are available.
