Wildhorse Golf Club
A stimulating, scenic idyll nestled on the Western frontier of Glen Canyon National Reserve, Wildhorse Golf Club has attracted unprecedented interest from around the world, since it's opening in 1959. Inherent to it's appeal is a timeless elegance befitting of vintage Las Vegas and a desert links course layout considered a rarity among the modern Henderson offerings.
Conveniently located within ten minutes equal distance of both McCarran International Airport and Boulder City Municipal Airport, Wildhorse Golf Club enjoys a prominent position within the heart of Las Vegas' twin-town Henderson – well connected by public travel operators and regional bus services. A sprinkling of exclusive resorts and lodging houses have opened in Henderson in recent years, bringing the town into it's own as an attractive vacation spot.
Opening for business in 1959 as the “Paradise Valley”, Wildhorse Golf Club was one of the last Nevada courses to launch during the 50's sport boom and continues to enthrall with relatively unchanged scenery to the South. Upmarket suburbs comprising condos and villas sprung up to the North of the grounds, although did little to alter the spectacular panoramas from Wildhorse's many canyon peaks. Back in 2004, the owners Wright Golf Management employed the skills of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt to rehash the aging layout, implementing vast waterways and courses, along with expansion to 6,525 yards from the back tees. Today, the par-70 rated course serves up five boxes per tee, offering a challenge refined for every skill.
Once a major stop-off on the PGA Tour, the present day Wildhorse Golf Club has gained a cult base of weekend locals, all keen to set a record on the 9th hole. At 398 yards, the par-4 is not the longest of the first nine, however is flanked at all quarters by treacherous lake hazards. The stooping green and super-fast narrow fairway add to it's repute as one of the most difficult par-4's in Nevada. Hole 18 was named by Vegas Golfer Magazine as one of the toughest on the course with two lakes guarding the green, however the locals reckon you'll fall short at the par 3 4th with it's deceptive undulations and capricious bunkers.
Continuing the timeless elegance within it's 22,000 square foot clubhouse, the public resort enjoys a modern reputation not limited to it's superior golfing layout and putting greens. Located on the open-plan 2nd floor, the Wildhorse Bar and Grill is an accommodating space with vaulted ceilings and a classic ranch menu, with the option of after-hours cocktails for members. It may not boast the mixed-bag amenities of many modern golf resorts - Wildhorse ranks highly among the best of them for it's superior golfing academy. Choose from hourly tuition or an entire week spent honing your craft on the rye grass fairways – the tutors are among the finest in the U.S!
