Ranked the 8th “Best Public Quality Golf Course 2009” by respondents to the Golf Reader's Choice Poll, Wolf Creek Golf Resort doesn't need to rely upon it's situation among the rugged Nevada canyons to prop up it's reputation. Hidden amid the thundering torrs and rock formations on the Northern fringe of Mesquite town, the Wolf Creek public resort presents the ultimate golfing getaway, for anyone dreaming of a tee-off in the mountains.

The physical embodiment of the “game of two halves”, Wolf Creek Golf Resort blends long narrow fairways with a rollercoaster ride across canyons, gullies and vast water formations throughout. Devised by father and son architect team Dennis and John Rider in 2000, Wolf Creek takes advantage of the dramatic natural elevations, while maintaining the tradition of a links layout. Elevated tee boxes and deliberately placed holes ensure you'll enjoy a pace befitting of the beauty around you, while being tested throughout by the par-72 rated course.

At 7,018 yards from the tips, Wolf Creek holds it's own among the larger play-areas of Mesquite. Each box offers four standard tees ranging from Signature to Challenger, coupled with a slope rating between 125-154. Ladies are also well provided for, with both Classics and Signature and a slope rating of 106-125. Average course completion takes around 5-6 hours for most, so consider setting aside an entire day of your holiday schedule.

Opening with a 579 yard par-5, the forced carries and fast greens soon affirm why the USGA tagged Wolf Creek the “third hardest golf course in America”. No doubt also why it was chosen above it's scenic neighbors as the shoot location for Tiger Woods' “PGA Tour 2009” video game. The second hole is where the fun really begins, dumping a vast canyon between you and the fairway green, along with a lofty elevation above the watercourses. Hole 3 is no less demanding of precision with a par-3 rating and snaking route, flanked by three well placed bunkers. After the first three, you might have thought the Wolf to allow a little recovery, however the six through nine shots call for accurate guessing on the yardage, with elevated greens and the compromising water hazards either side of holes 8 and 9.

The charm of Wolf Creek Golf Resort is not extinguished once you've mastered the final hole. With a 14,000 square foot clubhouse, Wolf Creek invites you to enjoy the marvel of the canyons from an alternative perspective, accompanied by an ice cold beer. The resort continues to ease open the lid of surprises with family friendly amenities on-site, including a first class grill restaurant and outdoor pool for the kids, as well as a relaxing spa center offering massage and holistic therapies. Forget carving out a day here, how about an entire weekend?
