Harrah's is right on the famous Las Vegas Strip, with 2,579 rooms and suites in several towers. The highest tower goes up 35 floors. Shopping, dining, entertainment and elegant spa services are all available in this top-of-the-line resort. "Carnaval" is the Brazilian way to say Mardi Gras, and this resort carries the carnaval party theme throughout the property, which explains the references to Brazil in the décor and the food. (Rio is a sister property on the Strip, also owned and operated by Harrah's.)
The monorail runs behind the property, connecting to the MGM Grand at the south end and to the Sahara at the north end, with stops at the convention center and many other grand scale casinos in between. There's a free shuttle to Rio, Harrah's sister hotel.
The large (87,000 square foot more or less) casino stays open all the time and houses a full slate of gaming options. There are over 1,200 video poker and video slot machines throughout the facility, in a wide variety of games, and 80 tables for games like baccarat, roulette, craps and blackjack. The poker room provides a non-smoking environment for ten tables of Texas Hold'em, Omaha, seven-card stud and hi-lo variations. Tournaments are scheduled frequently. Next door is the Winning Streaks Bar & Grill, which is the center for the race and sports book. It is not common in Las Vegas to have the restaurant right in the book in this way. There are six large screen projections, several plasma screens and more than 40 flat screen TVs for those placing wagers. The casino also offers an around-the-clock keno parlor as well as a variety of video keno machines.
The Showroom at Harrah's used to be the stage for Sammy Davis Jr., and now it serves as a forum for other big name acts. Wayne Newton still performs here on occasion. It is also regularly a comedy club for Mac King's mixture of magic and laughter. Headliner Clint Holmes has a theater named after him, and he sings popular music there. Afterward, Harrah's puts on the classic and expected showgirl dance show for adults only. Other enter-tainment includes Rita Rudner, who is a favorite comedic artist, and the award-winning "Improv Comedy Club."
The Carnaval Court Bar & Grill is a festive, outdoor eating, drinking and entertainment venue in the plaza area of Harrah's. Live music and flair bartending are offered every day. The wait staff are also performers. Live table games are also set up at the Carnaval Court on the weekends.
The Piano Bar is designed to be mellow, with excellent musicians, attentive service and a comfortable setting for drinks and conversation. At times two pianists compete with each other for the votes of the crowd.
At The Range Steakhouse diners have their choice of steaks and chops, prime rib, poultry and seafood, with a view looking up and down the Strip. Toby Keith made the song "I Love This Bar" popular, and now has opened the "I Love This Bar & Grill" at Harrah's. In addi-tion to food and drink, it features music videos, live bands and even a recording studio. Penazzi is an Italian restaurant with traditional family recipes presented in a contemporary style. Ming's Table provides fine Asian dining, including Roast Duck, shrimp and scallops and beef, all in unique sauces and served in a colorful, modern atmosphere. Carnaval Court Bar & Grill is an outdoor eating and drinking venue with a solid menu for refreshments, food and entertainment. Flavors is a buffet-format eatery with many different stations, of-fering a variety of choices, including prime rib and all-you-can-eat crab legs. Flavors also offers a Brazilian-style barbecue (called churrasco), as well as pizza, southwestern dishes and Asian items, including sushi. The Café at Harrah's is a causal place to eat with a large and varied menu.
A sundeck encircles the Olympic-size pool and hot tubs. A nearby pool bar and restaurant serves the pool. Cabanas are available for rent. The pool is not open during certain winter months.
Harrah's has put a lot of money and effort into the spa facilities. Full massage, facial and body treatment services are available including some of the latest treatments from other parts of the world. Different sorts of body wraps, aroma therapies and facial treatments are offered. Guests can also take advantage of the complete beauty salon and the fully-equipped health club located there. The spa has steam baths, saunas and whirlpools for both men and women.
Carnaval Court beckons shoppers to visit. Palms run around the perimeter, and ambulatory performers entertain within. Shops include crystal, fashion accessories, jewelry and collectibles as well as delicious treats, like Ghirardelli chocolate. Jackpot is the Harrah's logo merchandise shop. There is also an upscale wine and liquor store.
Guests at Harrah's may play at the nearby Rio Secco golf course or the more distant Cascata golf course, both of which have won recognition for their technical play, the scenery and their high standards of maintenance.
The wedding chapel at the related Harrah's property, Rio, is available to guests of Harrah's.
The Harrah's Entertainment Group has a centralized, professional meeting and convention planning staff. This staff, plus the 25,000 square feet of space available for exhibitions and meetings at Harrah's Las Vegas, makes it a good candidate for any special event. A fully-equipped business center can provide computer and office service support.
