Excalibur is an MGM Mirage Hotel and Casino. This giant replica of a medieval castle is popular among families with children. Unlike most Las Vegas venues, child-oriented attractions are offered. They take the form of a ride, game arcades and reconstructions of the era of knights in armor. The 4,008 rooms are comfortable but not large. The casino, on the other hand, is immense, with lower table minimums than the neighboring Luxor and Mandalay Bay. Excalibur invokes European history from about 800 to 1600, mixing blithely mixing Arthurian legend with touches from the Renaissance. The appointments include coats of arms and rustic doors, early renaissance music, puppeteers, and jugglers and period actors. There is a giant purple dragon in the lobby for photo ops. The property is clearly targeting the tourist rather than the business person, though large meeting facilities and a business center are available.
