3801 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas Strip, Nevada 89109

"The Trop," as it is locally known, is a classic Las Vegas Strip resort, offering 1,680 rooms and 198 suites, tropical landscaping, the famous Folies Bergère with its trademark show-girls, and a five-acre pool complete with lagoons, waterfalls and swim-up blackjack. It is scheduled for a $2 billion renovation in 2008 that will add four towers to the existing two. The hotel will then have over 8,000 rooms and a 600,000 square foot convention center.

This storied location built a headliner theatre to the specifications of Sammy Davis Jr., who was a major performer there. Pearl Bailey, Jack Benny, Vikki Carr, Phyllis Diller, Peggy Fleming, Mitzi Gaynor, Ann Margaret, the Osmonds, and Lou Rawls have all been featured in performance by the Tropicana.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition. Although the "ship of dreams" met its fate almost a century ago, the spirit of the Titanic lives on. Many items from the wreckage have been recovered and are on display in this 25,000 square foot exhibit. There is also a full-scale re-creation of the Grand Staircase and an outer Promenade Deck, complete with frigid temperatures. The exhibit concludes with a memorial wall to honor all those who died.

Bodies...The Exhibition. Twenty-one whole-body specimens are on display in poses that illustrate the body in motion, including throwing darts, conducting music, pitching a base-ball and hurling a discus. More than 260 organs and partial-body specimens are on display, using a method known as polymer preservation. Visitors have the chance to view the beauty and complexity of the human body as never before.

The Folies Bergère is Las Vegas' longest-running show. It has been recently revamped with new costumes and choreography. The show starts in the elegant age of 150 years ago, when dances, gowns and the women were all very formal. The cast appears in evening gowns of all colors of the rainbow, hats and parasols. Eventually the show enters the 20th century with a scene taken out of Offenbach: high-kicking petticoated showgirls and acrobatic waiters. Then fashions change again, and the undergarmets go away, the hemlines go up, and the flapper era begins with a focus on a new glamour trend from a place called Hollywood. The girls then make a tribute to the Tropicana's own history with a number set in the 1950s. For the finale, the dancers don their traditional costumes and showcase their beauty in a modern take on the traditional showgirl number.

The Comedy Stop features the brightest new comedy stars, including three who rotate weekly, including Al Romas, Mitch Fatel, and Tommy Blaze, all of whom have proved to be up-and-comers. Other comedians and popular performers tend to pop into the club's rotation at various times during the year.

Xtreme Magic encourages the audience to stretch the imagination. Dirk Arthur's show of exotic animals, helicopters and a Lamborghini incorporates elements made famous by Las Vegas magicians. The magician takes an enormous, flaming ball and causes a panther to appear right out of it. In other illusions, a white tiger seems to have lost his stripes, a duck appears in a bucket, and a chicken fired out of a slingshot shows up inside a balloon.

The full gym facilities at the spa include cardiovascular workout machines like exercise bikes, treadmills and elliptical trainers, as well as free weights.

Tropics provides unusual specialty drinks and, of course, slot machines. Karaoke is offered several nights per week with a stage, microphone and back-up music.
