Lake Las Vegas is the product of a dream of its developer, Ronald F. Boeddeker, head of Transcontinental Properties. In 1987 this company started the process of creating Lake Las Vegas with plans for a dam. Construction of the dam began in 1988 and was completed three years later in 1991. Water from the Las Vegas Wash was diverted under the lake to Lake Mead. While the lake filled, lots for custom homes were offered for sale along what was to be the lake’s edge.

The first golf course, SouthShore, was started in 1993 and completed in 1995. It is a Jack Nicklaus signature course. The Hyatt Regency began building a resort there in 1998, opening a year later in 1999. That year also saw the commencement of operations of Reflection Bay, another Nicklaus signature course.

In 2001 the MonteLago Village was constructed. In 2002 construction of The Ritz’Carlton commenced and The Falls, a Tom Weiskopf-designed course, opened. In 2003 the Ritz-Carlton started operations, as did the Casino MonteLago and the MonteLago Village Marina. Since then Lake Las Vegas has received many recognitions as one of the best places to vacation, live, and play golf or engage in water sports of all kinds. MonteLago Village offers fine dining, entertainment, shopping, and the atmosphere of a small, Tuscan town by the edge of a Northern Italian lake. A miniature version of the Ponte Vecchio decorates a portion of the lake and provides a landmark. Guests may choose the Ponte Vecchio for their own accommodations, if they like.

Loew’s has acquired the Lake Las Vegas Resort from the Hyatt Regency.

Lake Las Vegas is near Henderson, Nevada, and is about 25 minutes by car from the Las Vegas Strip. Driving to Lake Las Vegas from the Strip, either take I-15 south to I-215, and continue straight where the interstate ends, following Lake Mead Parkway to the turnoff to Lake Las Vegas, or take Tropicana Avenue east to I-515 South (US 95 South) towards Henderson and follow Lake Mead Parkway to the turnoff.
