The Southern Nevada Zoological and Botanical Park, otherwise known as the Las Vegas Zoo, is a treat for kids and adults. Try to chose a day that is not too hot and go early or late in the day, when the animals might be more active.

Las Vegas Zoo

The zoo has the last family of Barbary Apes in the country, as well as chimpanzees, several species of large cats, birds (eagles, ostriches, emus, parrots, and flamingos), wallabies, and reptiles, including poisonous snakes. The Las Vegas Gem Club has put on a display of minerals and gems. Subjects of botanical interest are treated in other displays. The Zoo’s mission is to inform the public about endangered species and habitat. In addition to self-guided tours, structured tours and classes are available. Hours are from 9-5. Visit the website for a coupon giving a kid free admission when with an adult. (From the Strip, take I-15 to US 95 North and get off right way at Exit 77 onto North Rancho Drive (Nevada Route 599) going north. Zoo is about three blocks after the crossing with West Owens Avenue.)
