Madame Tussauds Las Vegas
Dreaming of a moonlit serenade in the city that “made” Elvis? Perhaps you're a little Gaga to meet the first lady of pop? Las Vegas is one of seven places on Earth where those fanciful notions could become an extant reality, minus the paparazzos and throngs of screaming fans. For nearly 200 years, London's macabre “Chamber of Horrors” both intrigued and reviled all who set foot within the dungeon-esque confines of Madame Tussauds. Now, Madame Tussauds Las Vegas invites you to enter the chilling “Scream Maze”, where some of America's most notorious killers lie in wait to greet you!
Located within the decadent Venetian Hotel at the heart of the Strip, Madame Tussauds Las Vegas has become one of the premier attractions of the entertainment capital. From world class music icons such as the incomparable Elvis, to silver screen virtuosos like Marilyn Monroe and Marlon Brando, the exquisite craftsmanship of Tussaud's waxwork artists has borne an uncanny family of life-size figurines, resembling some of the most famous stars in living memory. Of course, one can't forget that the present day Venetian Hotel Resort was built on the former site of the Sands, a hotel with a long and glamorous history, as well as some darker secrets.
The old Copa Room at the Sands Hotel showcased some of the most prolific artists in musical history, including the “Rat Pack”, Elvis Presley and Judy Garland. Their cold-wax reincarnations are a nostalgic sight, beset upon neon-lit stages throughout the aptly named “Copa Corner”, within the Viva Vegas room. The only difference today is the proximity between you and the stars, for Madam Tussaud's actively encourage their visitors to get up close and personal with Frank, Sammy and the clan. Las Vegas legend Wayne Newton occupies a prime podium nearby, frozen mid-vocal with his head tilted back and a twinkle in his eye, while Judy Garland's doe-eyed gaze still melts the hearts of many from her space just behind him. Unexpected surprises abound within Viva Vegas, although few are quite prepared for the response of the “King” should they reach out to take his hand. Wired with an ultra-sensitive response system, his uncanny wax persona greets you in that unmistakably Southern drawl and the nonchalant laugh for which he became globally known.
Dragging the glamor of yesteryear into the star-studded arena of “The Big Night”, Madam Tussaud's wows visitors with a slew of prolific modern celebrities, including the flamboyant Lady Gaga and surprisingly waif-like Gwen Stefani. With his trademark rimmed glasses and exuberant velour suit, Elton John is the would-be king of the pop section, were it not for the recent inclusion of Michael Jackson – an exhibit to which the late “King of Pop” himself gave his seal of approval. Make the “Big Night” your ultimate night with a homage visit to the George Clooney waxwork within the chapel. Ladies – you can't miss your one and only opportunity right here. Don a bridal gown and say “I do” for the freeze-frame of a lifetime, with Hollywood's most eligible “silver fox”!
