Midi-Baccarat
Midi-Baccarat is the least common of the three formats in which Baccarat is presented in casinos around the world. The original game, called simply “Baccarat,” is still played in a separate, high-roller area of the casino at a large table that can accommodate 14 players. Three dealers work the tables, retrieving cards and placing, collecting and paying bets. Table minimums are high. The deal rotates among the players.
Casinos conceived of “mini-Baccarat” to make the game more accessible to “average” players. The table, which is located on the main casino floor with the other table games, is considerably smaller than a Baccarat table. One dealer holds sway over it, and he or she deals out the cards from a six- or eight-deck shoe. No more than seven players can be seated at a mini-Baccarat table. Play is thus much faster than at the larger table with player-dealers, and table minimums are more in keeping with the minimums at other table games on the main casino floor.
Midi-Baccarat is a middle road. The table is placed in the high-stakes part of the casino, either a room or a roped off area. The table is slightly larger than a mini-Baccarat table, and can seat as many as nine players at a time. One dealer operates the table and deals the cards. Table minimums are higher than standard table games. The version of Baccarat dealt at a midi-Baccarat table is the same as in mini-Baccarat.
