Las Vegas boasts some excellent options in museums from natural history and fine art to Liberace and Madame Tussaud.
Auto Collections at the Imperial Palace. Auto Collections is an enormous showroom with over 250 unusual vehicles on display, either historic, rare, luxurious or customized. Hours are 9:30am-9:30pm. Admission is $7, $3 for seniors and kids under 12.
Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art (3600 Las Vegas Boulevard South) Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art exhibits Faberge eggs, art from the 1800’s and beautiful art and artifacts from the late empire in Russia. Traveling exhibits are frequently hung there. Hours are 9-7.
Las Vegas Natural History Museum (900 Las Vegas Boulevard North) The Las Vegas Natural History Museum covers the geological history of the Valley as well as the animals and flora that covered this area over thousands and millions of years. Admission $5. Open 9-4.
Liberace Museum (1775 East Tropicana Avenue) This museum has all the glitz and glitter of Liberace himself, the pianos, the costumes, cars and jewelry. A fascinating and very “Vegas” place to visit. Hours Tuesday-Saturday 10-5, Noon-4 on Sunday. Admission $12.50.
Lied Children's Discovery Museum (833 Las Vegas Boulevard North) The Lied Children's Discovery Museum has many exhibits that kids can touch and play with. Steel drums, rail-roads, desert items, kids’ science, animals, puppets and more. Admission $5. Hours 10-5.
Lost City Museum in Overton was put together by the National Park Service to display artifacts coming out of the Pueblo Grande de Nevada, locations where the Anasazi (literally, “ancient ones” in Navajo), who were the progenitors of the Pueblo peoples, had lived. These sites were threatened by the rising waters of Lake Mead once Hoover Dam was put to use. The State of Nevada now owns and operates the facility. It is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in the origins of the Native Americans of the Southwest.
Nevada State Museum & Historical Society (700 Twin Lakes Drive) The Nevada State Museum and Historical Society is in Lorenzi Park. Lots of exhibits and museum collections on the history of the Las Vegas Valley and the State of Nevada as a whole. Open 9-5.
Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, Las Vegas (3355 Las Vegas Boulevard South ) This attraction is at the Venetian. More than 100 life-like replicas of famous personalities are on display, including Elvis. Interactive exhibits. Opens at 10, closes at 9, 10 or 11 depending on the season.
