Gold Boutique
The “King” of rock 'n' roll seems to have an eternal presence in Vegas. His musical legacy fuels a nightly explosion of color and acrobatics at ARIA Hotel Resort, while his love for contemporary cool and elegant finery are now drawing fans to a whole new experience – and it's right next door! The Gold Boutique Nightclub is one of the newest semi-themed bars to hit Vegas, that seeks to revive some of that old-time glory and glamor synonymous with 70's Sin City. Far from seeking to create a Graceland-like homage to Elvis Presley, the prestigious Light Group wanted to create a place where Elvis would have likely hung out – and to all intents and purposes, it's certainly paid off!
Gold Boutique unexpectedly lives up to it's name, with an interior that can only be described as bordering on brash. Romanesque gold pillars streamline a two-bar 400-capacity space, which is broken up by a rich claret carpet featuring criss-crossing undulating bright streaks. Were it not for the prominence of gold wing back chairs, dark mahogany hints and jet black walls, it could have crossed over into optical illusion territory. The Light Group certainly left no corner bare during the planning of Gold, implementing quirky stallion lamps and wrought iron monkeys to break up the over-abundance of gold hues. Diamond-mirrored walls create the illusion of even more space and the black marble trimmed bar is a vision in itself. Elvis was a man known for his love of finery, and every aspect of Gold reflects the detailing of his former residences in one way or another.
If you eventually manage to draw your eyes away from the many wonders of Gold, you're sure to find a wealth of surprises among both the menu offerings, and the signature cocktails. Familiar Elvis tracks such as “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Jail House Rock” are common exchanges at the bar, however these are not song requests. Nearly every cocktail on offer at Gold has some attribution to the King of Rock 'n' Roll, and “Blue Suede Shoes” seems to have become it's trademark. A combination of Southern Comfort, Crème de Banane and Blue Curacao; the result is a sweet medley with a gentle burning kick, that lingers long after you've downed the lot.
Some clubs enjoy a staid period of popularity in Vegas, before dropping to the status of casino green room – basically just a place where patrons nab a bite to eat and respite from the glare of slots. Others rise up and become almost iconic, a place celebrities never tire of and even the music remains fashionable. Gold falls into the latter group. Already a hit among Hollywood A-listers, Gold accounts for one of the top Vegas haunts for the likes of Loretta St. John, Hilary Scott and Chris Brown – all of whom have celebrated birthdays at the prestigious club. Rumor has it that Jamie Foxx and the Hiltons have also adorned Gold with their own brand of bling. Vegas might be a hot-bed for celebrity sightings, but only a Light Group bar attracts the generational A-listers!
