Pussycat Dolls Lounge
Does the name Robert Antin sound familiar? You don't have to be a Vegas native to have heard of her biggest product – the Pussycat Dolls. Headed up by Hawaiian beauty Nicole Scherzinger, the Pussycat Dolls shook up the tired girl-band stereotype with an erotic combination of sultry burlesque dance performances and powerful feminist vocals. Scores of celebrities lined up to perform with them during their brief reign in the charts, however it was the Las Vegas show and cast, produced and directed by Robert Antin that truly got tongues wagging. Explicit would be an understatement, since the show openly flaunted the fact the majority of performances were semi-nude. Couple this with the athletic, yet voluptuous physiques of a contortionist dance troupe and the exotic raunch of burlesque – well it's not hard to see why they still call Vegas the “City of Sin”.
Following hot on the heels of the successful Pussycat Dolls Lounge at the Viper Room, Los Angeles; the Las Vegas venue opened in June 2010, after the open-ended run of the strip revue stage-show at Caesar's Palace Theater came to an end. The Pussycat Dolls Lounge marked a new era in the direction of the group, with a complete member reshuffle, as well as a complete revamp for on-stage choreography. P. C. D's new home at the Paris Hotel Resort coincided with the launch of French themed club Chateau, a decadent Gothic inspired lounge-club that would in fact become the sister to the multi-million dollar P. C. D development. Essentially it was a two-club concept offering erotic entertainment, or exotic surroundings, but admission gave patrons the benefit of choice.
Decked out in the sultry reds and black leather synonymous with the old P. C. D haunt, the new venue is decidedly more risqué, playing up to the strip club stereotype, rather than an urban chill-out lounge. As expected, the music is a sexy mix of Hip Hop, R'n'B and alternative rock, giving the Las Vegas Pussycat Dolls more than ample rhythm to gyrate and booty-pop with astounding vigor. The high octane podium dancing occurs on the hour, every half hour with up to seven dancers taking to various stages around the lounge. A united show occurs around three times per evening – the whole troupe getting together for a raunchy trip back to the 20's with classical burlesque. No-one is quite sure where they get their racy lingerie, however it's fair to say the costumes would make even the Victoria's Secret brand seem demure by comparison.
Strip clubs may once have been the seedy basement haunts for men to appreciate the female form, however those in Vegas are of the distinctly upscale variety. Common rules pertaining to physical interaction and even tipping are maintained under the watchful eye of security staff, although there is rarely the need for intervention. Open seven days per week from 8 pm until late, the Pussycat Dolls Lounge is a great pre-club lounge with vibrant entertainment and a fashionable ambiance. The Pussycat Dolls Troupe perform Tuesday to Saturday, so if you're intent on catching them, you might just want to arrange your schedule accordingly!
