Phillip J. Hellmuth, Jr. comes from Madison, Wisconsin, born there in 1964. He holds the record for the most number of WSOP event wins at 11 – all of them in Texas Hold’em. He has been inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. His first Main Event win was in 1989 at the age of 24, against Johnny Chan. His 11th bracelet came in 2007. He also holds the record for most money finishes (63) and most final tables (39, with TJ Cloutier). His WSOP winnings alone are $5.6 million. Hellmuth is best known for his disruptive behavior at the poker table, which is often dramatic and temperamental. It has earned him the nickname, “Poker Brat.” In a few instances he has walked away from the table. Some of his colleagues believe it is just a pose, while others refuse to play with him. His ego is reflected in a famous quote of his: “If luck weren't involved, I guess I'd win every one.” Phil likes to appear in Poker After Dark, either to play or be a commentator. He has produced a number of instructional videos and articles on poker. He is also the author of several books on the subject. At nearly $10 million in lifetime earnings, he is 4th on the All Time Money List. Phil lives in Palo Alto with his wife, Katherine Sanborn, and two sons. Hellmuth is a spokesperson for UltimateBet.
