Búzio's
"Buzio" is Brazilian Portuguese for a cowry shell and the name of a beautiful peninsula just north of Rio de Janeiro. This restaurant captures the idea of a rustic seafood retreat with fresh fish and shellfish, overlooking the Rio's version of Ipanema Beach -- a large resort swimming complex including a sandy beach. The fish tanks and the maritime gear used as decorations really establish the theme. The oyster bar has individual seating, and looks into the large, open kitchen. The dining room and a second private dining room are informal and pleasant, and can accommodate groups as large as 100. Seafood is flown in fresh daily. Try the lobster bisque or clam chowder. The raw bar has oysters, clams, mussels, shrimp and crab. Several recipes use Pacific Rim ingredients and techniques (like wasabi, ginger and miso glazes). From sea bass to tuna, the menu is complete. Non-seafood options are available. The elaborate deserts are pleasing to the eye and tempting to the palate. Save room!
