Cafe Ba Ba Reeba
Cafe Ba Ba Reeba is a Spanish tapas bar in a more modern, Las Vegas context. It was modeled on the successful place of the same name that has welcomed gourmets in Chicago for a generation or more. The creative genius behind Café Ba Ba Reeba is Gabino Sotelino, who pioneered the idea of tapas in the United States. Originally from the famed walking mall in Barcelona called "Las Ramblas" tapas are small portions of a lot of different appetizers, accompanied with lots of wine, sherry, sangria or cocktails, according to one's taste. The host would keep providing a variety of these small tastes to his guests, to make them want to stay longer. At Café Ba Ba Reeba, the lowly tapa has come into its own as a form of haute cuisine. The restaurant provides tables as well as the "bar" to accommodate those who plan to order more substantial fare from the menu. The interior is pleasant and welcoming, with warm woods and pleasant lighting. The layout and offers a couple of smaller, private spaces for groups to assemble. A patio overlooks the Las Vegas Strip. Examples from the menu include a plate
of ham, chorizo and Manchego cheese, perhaps followed by a salmon and scallop ceviche, curried chicken, shrimp in garlic, short ribs of beef in rioja wine, and bleu cheese encrusted mini-filet. Café; Ba Ba Reeba also prepares a complete Spanish paella for those who really want to sit down to the challenge of a more than full meal. The sangria has fruit in it to help complement the piquant flavors of the tapas, but owner Gambino also has selected many wines that can also stand up to the garlic or the curry. Café; Ba Ba Reeba also schedules classes and tastings from time to time on both the food and the drink
