Delmonico Steakhouse
In true Delmonico fashion, the décor of this storied steakhouse is simple, almost austere. The focus is on the food. Emeril Lagasse has established the Delmonico name, so well known in other cities, in Las Vegas, and, like a good contrarian, left all the glitz outside on the Strip. The menu and the food are the central attractions at Delmonico. Take the conventional steakhouse and add a Creole twist, boost the level of creativity, and that is Delmonico. In addition to the steaks, try the New Orleans barbecued shrimp or salmon. The steak tartare is prepared according to all the conventional rules, but comes spectacularly presented. Lobster bisque, Caesar salad, seared Ahi tuna, rack of lamb, pork, chicken, veal, scallops -- all are in their traditional places on the menu. The top of the line is probably the chateaubriand, a two-person order. The sides, of course, are also tasty and unusual, like the twice baked potato with cheddar and bacon, or the creamed spinach (a must!) and garlic mushrooms. Real key lime pie is the desert recommendation, unless you prefer the pecan pie or the banana cream. Delmonico also serves lunches. It was the 2004 Epicurean Award winner for Best Steak House and Wine Spectator's Grand Award winner.
