Pamplemousse
Pamplemousse is a in a quiet location. It is regarded by locals and tourists alike as one of the most romantic and high-quality restaurants in town. Chef and owner Georges LaForge established this quiet, French country bistro more than 30 years ago. It is called "Pamplemousse” (grapefruit) because Bobby Darin thought it was the most beautiful word in the French language. He wanted to partner with LaForge on the restaurant, but died tragically before it could take place. LaForge has named his restaurant in honor and memory of his friend. Since then, Le Pamplemousse has hosted countless celebrities who saw it as a refuge from the noise and lights of the Strip, which lies about 500 yards to the west on Sahara, near the monorail stop, and within walking distance of the Hilton. The menu at Pamplemousse is not written down, in the tradition of fine French bistros. It changes daily. There is always something like fresh salmon or other catch, lobster, shrimp and shellfish, veal, rack of lamb, prime rib, filet mignon, duck and vegetarian plates. Examples are Coq au Vin à la Bourguignonne, Crispy Confit Duck and Osso Bucco. Le Pamplemousse is famous for its desert soufflés with chocolate and Grand Marnier.
