Las Vegas Comedy Show
Nestled between the ever-popular Hard Rock Hotel and Rumors; the off-'Strip' Alexis Park Hotel already has it's work cut out when it comes to stiff competition. The “Hard Rock” draws a mixed audience with the critically acclaimed “L.A Comedy Club of Vegas”, and big name entities (whom have included the likes of George Wallace) regularly stake out the stage at neighboring Rumors Boutique. Suffice to say, it would take someone with an already established history in humor, to rival such crowd-drawing deliverables – and the Alexis Park Hotel happens to boast a man, with over fifteen years in the comedy trade. Cue the comedy sketch veteran that is Joe Lowers; a joker with such a diverse range of skits up his sleeve, its a wonder he hasn't been dubbed the 'Las Vegas Gag Encyclopedia'.
The sound of raucous 'sit-com' style laughter resonates around the “Las Vegas Comedy Club Showroom” before the evening has even started, and its undoubtedly down to Lowers hilarious re-enactment of his arrival to the Alexis Park. Situated off the main Strip, the hotel has often been labeled 'hard to find', yet Lowers mocks less the hotel's aspect, and more his own lack of direction or spatial awareness. The skit opens with him running around the stage (akin to a headless chicken) under the pretended notion he is not actually on a stage in front of several hundred guests. One could be led to thinking such an immature opening would pave the way for a less than adult oriented show - yet the success of Lowers as a stand-up comic for over fifteen years, has been born on the back of his ability to conjure the unexpected. No two shows are ever the same – which is no doubt why die-hard fans pay a return visit to the Alexis, several times a year.
The recent renovation of the Alexis Park Hotel Showroom allowed Joe Lowers to really refine an act, which has received unprecedented praise for it's spontaneity. The addition of two, twin plasma screens either side of the main stage, meant that Lowers could incorporate visuals into the set. Several screened montages form the backbone to some long-running jokes, throughout the evening - including the introductory 'arrival gag'. If there's one trait Joe Lowers can boast to rival other comedians of his standing, its his innate ability to laugh at, and heckle himself. A popular aspect of his variegated production, is his 'question and answer' skit, which involves him dashing between stage and seat as he, and audience members pose questions to Joe – the “comedian”. Such scenes are a classic characteristic of Lower's brand of comedy. While there are moments of classic stand-up; Joe prefers to enliven proceedings with an energetic, interactive show, in which both he and the audience are guaranteed a night of fun!
Responsible for the inception of the Vegas touring “W.S.C” (World Series of Comedy) show in 2003, Lowers is a keen talent scout, with an eye for up-and-coming comedians all over the U.S. As a result, his co-stars evolve on a show-by-show basis, and comprise an eclectic mix of both established and emerging talent. Tom Rhodes, Steven White and Brandt Tobler represent just a few of the well known Vegas-circuit names, to have graced the stage alongside the 'patriarch' of silliness, while acoustic funny-man Steve Brooks takes care of both pre, and post-show melodies to keep the party swinging. If you're seeking the kind of 'done' stand-up that can be found all over Vegas, the “Las Vegas Comedy Show” probably isn't for you. Conversely, if you're open-minded and prepared to endure lashings of unpredictable behavior - Joe Lowers is guaranteed to have you choking upon your complimentary pop-corn, before the night is through!
