Name That Tune Las Vegas
Are you a font of useless music trivia? If you're one of those rare types blessed with a photographic memory or encyclopedic brain, an afternoon at Imperial Palace Hotel could be right up your street. Imperial Theatre is the new afternoon home of hit matinée game show “Name That Tune”, hosted by none other than Zowie Bowie tribute band frontman Chris Phillips (aka “Zowie Bowie”) and fiancée Marley Taylor, also a credited singer-songwriter in her own right. The talented couple are one of Las Vegas' few successful duos whom also enjoy a domestic relationship; a quality that shines through in every aspect of this fast-paced, “vintage Vegas” style show.
If you've holidayed in Vegas during the past four years, you've doubtless seen this pair before. With their drop-dead good looks, impeccable dental work and distinctive style, the couple have featured on magazine covers, awards programs and of course, the stage since way back in 2007. Natives will remember the talented duo for their award-winning Number One Must See Show “Zowie Bowie: Featuring Marley Taylor”. Billed as a nod to Vegas in its heyday, Zowie Bowie rocked the stage at Red Rock Hotel and Casino Resort for nearly two years on an open-ended run. A former heavy metal drummer during the 1980's, Chris Phillips relegated his sticks to the closet for a showbiz solo career that now spans over two decades. The blue-eyed ex-FCUK campaign model has captured many a heart with his soulful vocals and suave persona, but more than that, he has revived the legacy of Las Vegas with what he describes as a “cufflinks and cocktails” style. He attributes much of his success to partner Marley Taylor. With her Playboy charms and impeccable voice, she has, as Las Vegas Magazine sensationally proclaimed, been the Ann-Margaret to Philip's Sinatra!
Devised upon the classic television game show of the 1950's (presented by Bill Cullen, Dennis James and Jim Lange to name but a few) Name That Tune Las Vegas inspirits the exuberance and fun of the early years, albeit with an obvious modern twist. Can you spot a classic chart-topper by listening to a few opening chords? Super-fast and often, super funny, Name That Tune promises to challenge your brain cells with lightning speed rounds, song scrambles and music trivia moments that make your average pub quiz seem like a junior SAT test! The opening round kicks off with the classic “Buzz In” qualifier. Faced with a barrage of intros ranging from Britney to Engelbert, pre-selected contestants are tested on speed, responsiveness and obviously, musical knowledge in a round that sets the tone for the seat-gripping entertainment to come.
“Bid-A-Second” gets the audience fired up with cryptic clues to song excerpts and it's all anyone can do to resist shouting out. Host Zowie Bowie (Chris Phillips) charms with classic renditions of Rat Pack greats during each round, accompanied by a 30-strong big band and the dazzling Marley Taylor. He interrupts the flow of an Elvis medley with the chance to win tickets to various hit Strip shows and if you're lucky, a cash prize too! The nail-biting rounds inch closer to the vintage “Beat The Clock” finale and as competitors gradually fall off the radar, the audience and finalist are in it together for the chance to win a luxury cruise or $10,000 prize. Think you could guess 15 songs correctly in a seemingly impossible 60 seconds? Enrollment is free if you want to find out!
