The Dirty Joke Show
What do you get when you cross an ex ”Rat Pack is Back” legend, with a world-record breaking joker and a comedy juggler? Answer: the laugh-a-minute trio responsible for “The Dirty Joke Show”; a comedy-concept of theatrical proportions, that promises a no-holds-barred evening of wit, whimsy and possible innuendo. Okay, probable!
Geechy Guy; the Guinness world-record breaking joker (famed for reciting 676 jokes in under an hour) is the protagonist, and ambitious mind behind the new comedy concept – creating a comedy show, based upon a rendezvous of comedians in a back alley. Those comedians happen to be two quite familiar faces on the 'Strip' - Mickey Joseph, whom enjoyed success as “Joey Bishop” with the seasoned “Rat Pack Is Back” tribute, and Todd Paul; a man as renowned for his unicycle feats, as he is for the comedy delivered whilst riding it!
Headlining at the acclaimed Hooters Casino Hotel, “The Dirty Joke Show” enjoys prime location within the hallowed halls of a well-established venue for comedy. The surprisingly huge Iowa Theater within Hooters, has played host to Cirque de Soleil productions, and the relatively new “Men of X” tease-show, so can really pack in the kind of audiences Geechy and company attract. And as statistics go, “The Dirty Joke Show” is ranking up there alongside some of Las Vegas' biggest, and longest running productions, despite still being in it's youth at Hooter's.
To see Geechy, Joseph and Paul on-stage, you'd think they had started out as teenage buddies – the jokes seeming to rebound, the quips slotting effortlessly in between. “The Dirty Joke Show” has just reached the five-year milestone, however you'd think these guys had been working together far longer. There's an effortless ease to the way in which they gel, laugh and 'insert where appropriate', that many comedy duos and trios never manage to achieve. And yet with these guys, the camaraderie seems so effortless and natural!
Unlike other comedians who often employ covert techniques to 'filter' their gags for excessive swearing; the “Dirty Joke” trio employ none. So yes, you can expect to be confronted with three potty-mouthed middle-aged men, who largely rely upon improvisation – but the name of the show speaks for itself, as does the 21 plus age specification. As you'd expect of three guys congregated in a city alley, killing time before the 'fictional' show; the conversations do inevitably steer to the subjects of women, the female form, sex and marriage.
Such observations from the comedy-bible brain of Geechy, tend to be of a rather more analyzed nature – but the general banter is carried quickly forward by Joseph, who often refers to his professional experience on the 'Strip'. Hardly surprising given the alleged number of women, who used to clamor for attention post every “Rat Pack is Back” performance. Todd Paul conveys a more relaxed, cursive demeanor, but is no less accommodating when the show gets going. He's even been known to conjure a guitar from behind his milk crate, and launch into a ditty or two! His brand of roll-off-the-tongue comedy has already seen him dubbed “Vegas' funniest new comedian” by 'Where' magazine, and the critical acclaim shows no sign of ceasing.
Archetypal comedy shows on the Vegas Strip tend to be of the classic stand-up or cabaret variety. The comedian stands, the audience sits, and he/ she talks at them for 90 minutes. The concept of “The Dirty Joke Show” was devised to set the production apart from it's contemporaries – slotting it within the 'comedy theater' niche, rather than the already 'done' stand-up comedy category. Despite this, the show manages to extend it's allure with the promise of an interactive experience. The comedians may be playing to a concept, however they treat their audience as if they too were sitting in that alley, like one of the lads.
