The Frankie Moreno Show
Good looks and raw charisma are the prerequisites of any Vegas solo act and as luck would have it, Frankie Moreno has that rare bonus of classical vocal training too! A former lounge singer regaling the glitterati at Golden Nugget Hotel until 2010, Frankie Moreno has since jumped ship to bigger and better things – namely as headliner at Danny Gan's famous launch venue: Stratosphere. Trading smoky lounge dwellers for a well-heeled cabaret theater audience, Moreno brought back a slice of vintage Sin City not seen since, well since the great Danny Gans himself graced the Stratosphere stage.
2011 was a huge year for Moreno. Not only did he make one of the biggest venue transitions of his career; he performed on tour with contracted with old-rockers Air Supply as the keyboardist on their comeback tour and managed to fit in 5 co-written tracks for the forthcoming “Mumbo Jumbo” release! Frankie Moreno is no stranger to billboard chart success. A chance collaboration with classical violinist Joshua Bell on Beatle's oldie “Eleanor Rigby”recieved critical acclaim in 2009, swiftly followed by a Sony Records deal after the success of self-released “Hangin' on A Maybe” later that same year. In 2010, the Moreno scored an open-ended run at the Golden Nugget which is, as far as he's concerned, his first Vegas “home”.
Joined by his own ten-piece band, Moreno pedals back time early on in the show, promising it to be a sophisticated throwback to Sin City's golden years. And he doesn't disappoint. Classically trained in piano from the age of eleven, Frankie crashes into the first set with raging jazz and blues covers, padded out with contemporary piano led tracks from his albums “Rebel Revolution” and the swingy “Hangin' On A Maybe”. Sing-a-longs aplenty with Moreno and even if you don't know the words, there's something infectious about “I Betcha” and “Let's Fake A Honeymoon” impossible to divulge.
Frankie Moreno has drawn likenesses to many Rat Pack inspired crooners, often compared to the iconic Michael Buble, with a hint of “Chris Isaak and Billy Joel thrown in there too!” Moreover, Moreno describes himself as being led, yet not consumed by his retro inspirations and it is perhaps this fresh new outlook that swayed music mogul Simon Cowell in 2009. Cowell happened to be at the Lincoln Center when Moreno performed “Eleanor Rigby” alongside Josh Groban and Sting – the performance which allegedly paved the way for a Sony deal and a rumored appearance on the next season of X Factor. Our thoughts? Savor him and the ticket prices while you can, before he becomes a Lincoln Center sell-out!
