It’s a real-live wedding were you can converse with other guests, watch the ceremony, enjoy a delicious Italian buffet at the reception and get down on the dance floor. Of course, there’s a bar. Forget that you’re an audience member and pretend that you’re a real guest at the wedding. Tony and Tina want you to get involved.

Tony and Tina love getting married so much that they’ve been doing it since 1988, having their ceremony all over the world including Japan, Australia and various European countries. In fact, it’s the longest running environment theater show in history. Glamour magazine called Tony & Tina’s wedding the most innovative off-Broadway play.

An environment theater is a show held in a specific place, with Tony & Tina’s wedding held at an actual Italian reception. Despite the wild comedy, the wedding is held at a proper, though understated church with dark wood, padded red seats, and stained glass windows with doves and flowers.

This theatrical experience simulates the experience of watching a loved one walk down the aisle to fully commit to a partner, for richer or funnier. Enjoy wild dancing and imitations of all those hilarious Italian stereotypes.

The guests are a mixture of real audience members and comedic actors who will start getting out of hand they’ve had too much to drink. Crazy guests include a pregnant bridesmaid, a drunken priest, a gay brother of the bride and a stripper ex-girlfriend. You also couldn’t have a stereotypical Italian wedding without the bickering.

Tony & Tina’s wedding started off as an improv show thought up by two theater students, Mark Nasser and Nancy Cassaro. After performing fake weddings for friends and family, they realized that they found a show idea that has universal appeal.

Tony & Tina’s Wedding attracted the attention of the New York Times, People magazine and Time magazine and was eventually turned into a commercial production that has run consistently to this day.

Warning, make sure you dress in proper attire for a wedding. While you won’t be asked to leave, you will be asked by the mother of the bride why you aren’t wearing proper clothes. Also, bringing children is not recommended, since there’s some mild adult content. Children under four will not be allowed in out of respect for the rest of the guests.
