Six-card stud
Six Card Stud is played more in homes than in card rooms, but on rare occasions there may be a game in a public venue. Usually it is played in home games when there is one person too many for seven card stud (the limit is 7, obviously).
Play six card stud just as you would seven card stud. If antes were required in seven card stud, they will be required in six card stud. Rules about bring in bets are the same. The only real difference is that instead of two hole cards and a door card, players receive just one hole card and a door card before the first round of betting. After that, play proceeds just as in seven card stud.
The “feel” of the six card version is a bit different because the missing hole card took with it the chance for some promising early combinations. Additionally, players see four out of the six cards of every other player, so that it is easier to figure out what the opponents may be looking at. This makes the betting slow down. Few pots “catch fire” and go to the betting limits. Any combination of five out of the six cards can be used at showdown.
