Solo is a debit card, launched by the company known today as Maestro. It bears some resemblance to the Maestro debit card. It is much like the Visa Electron, which is a bank debit card, usable at ATM’s and real world establishments, with a maximum usable balance equal to the funds the customer has available in the bank account to which the card is linked. Electronic verification is required for the transaction to be completed. Thus the Solo card is very safe, financially speaking, both from the bank’s point of view and that of the accepting merchant.

Because of the simplicity and safety of the Solo card, banks are willing to issue them to account holders as young as 11 years of age, and it is very popular among teens. This makes the card less useful for online casinos that want to enforce the policy against underage gambling. For that reason, not every online establishment accepts Solo. Some account holders report that the transfers to fund online gaming accounts often are rejected by the card company.
