Thrill rides
Revving up for the ride of your life? Forget Red Rock Canyon; if you're a self-proclaimed member of the G-Free Club, the Las Vegas Strip boasts a bevy of white knuckle thrill rides guaranteed to get the adrenaline pumping. Steel your senses and avoid lunch at all costs, for Las Vegas' offerings are best endured on an empty stomach!
New York, New York Roller-coaster (Manhattan Express)
All aboard the Manhattan Express for a heart-stopping runaway train adventure that encircles the entire hotel. With a peaking elevation of 203 feet (61 meters), the Coney Island stylized coaster promises a succession of lofty “big drops”, contorting twists and essential loops guaranteed to squeeze the air from your lungs. At its highest point, Manhattan Express affords stunning views across the entire Vegas cityscape, almost parallel with the iconic resort towers nearby. With a hang time of less than 8 seconds and top speeds of 67 mph, that view will be an all too distant memory as you're hurtled around the coaster track.
Insanity at Stratosphere
Acrophobics beware - Insanity does indeed live up to the moniker. Located atop Stratosphere Tower (Las Vegas' highest building at 1,149 feet), this whirling, spinning, gravity defiant ride is not for the jelly-legged. What appears to be a giant crane overhanging the observation deck rim, is in fact Insanity, a ride of white knuckle proportions boasting speeds in excess of 3 G's and dizzying repetition. Legs dangling and tilted forward at an angle of 70 degrees, the arms begin to outstretch while the entire ride commences its clockwise spin with a perilous 900 foot view of the Strip below - just to make it that bit more terrifying!
Sling Shot at Circus, Circus Resort
Four G propulsion might sound like an adrenaline junkie's dream, but when you couple it with a vertical 100 foot tower and a 60-second experience, you just know it's going to be ten times more hardcore than your average coaster. Sling Shot at Circus Circus' aptly named “Adventuredome” is one of six such elevator rides in the U.S.A, famed for its teasing climb and rocket launch speeds. The descent is no less terrifying, dropping riders at a rate of negative 1G in a heart-pounding five seconds flat!
Desperado Bill's Rollercoaster, Primm, Nevada
Scream if you want to go faster! Actually, it won't make much difference aboard Desperado, one of the fastest coasters in Nevada. Located within the small town of Primm, forty miles South of Las Vegas, this exuberantly painted blue and yellow coaster is like nothing you'll find in Neon City. For starters, Desperado hurtles along the track at over 80 mph, making it faster than even Manhattan Express at New York, New York. Secondly, there's the plunge – a terrifying drop of 209 feet into the dark abyss of the “anthill” at a top speed of 90 mph - in less than 6 seconds. That 40 minute drive is so worth it!
Inverter at Adventuredome
Imagine being strapped into the seat of a roofless school bus, connected to a huge hydraulic arm and spinning 360 degrees for two minutes. Picturing it? Then you might have some anticipation of what Inverter has in store. Situated within the playground of mayhem – Adventuredome, Inverter is the 21st Century replacement for those crazy twisted wheel rides once prominent at the fairground. In under two minutes, you'll complete a whopping twenty rotations some 50 feet above the Adventuredome floor, pausing only for the occasional jolt further forward as the seating car rotates on its own axis!
Canyon Blaster at Circus Circus
One of Adventuredome's stalwart attractions, Canyon Blaster remains a record breaker as the only indoor U.S coaster to feature two corkscrews and a double-loop. With a maximum drop of 90 feet, Canyon Blaster continues to tip the scales as one of the highest too! Brace yourself for an epic runaway train ride with speeds of up to 55 mph, and a near-miss collision course deliberately planned to throw you into the path of Chaos!
