The scenery in Zion National Park is breathtaking. It is located on the Colorado Plateau, but and borders the Great Basin and Mojave Desert. A quick method of enjoying the park is following the Scenic Drive through the park; however, the best way to view it is by hiking one of the many trails to high ground. Trails of all levels of challenge are available. Hikers fond of fall foliage or spring wildflowers will find seasonal treats on these outings. Photographers find rare colors, natural lighting, and unusual textures in the geological formations. Birdwatchers can be on the lookout for up to 271 known species of birds. A paved bike path is provided for cyclists. Visitors can also arrange tours with a Park Ranger to learn more. Campgrounds and a lodge are available, too.

Kolob Canyons Visitor Center is off exit 40 of Interstate 15. Utah Routes 9 and 17 lead to the entrance. Alternatively, the Zion Canyon Visitor Center at the south end of the park can be accessed from Springdale, Utah.

Zion National Park

From Las Vegas, this outing will take all day, at least. Zion National Park is off I-15, near Springdale, Utah, between St. George and Cedar City, approximately 160 miles from the Strip. (St. George, which is about 115 miles from Las Vegas, is on the border with Arizona, not far from the Nevada border, and is known for its red sandstone precipices and fine golf courses.) Once at Zion National Park, it is a short ride to Cedar City (about 15 miles farther up the interstate).
